Work on Bedminster bridge, which was due to start in the spring, has been delayed until autumn ‘due to the complexity of the project’ which is expected to last 18 months. Funded by central government through the West of England Combined Authority, the work will split the two sides of the Bedminster roundabout: the western side will be exclusively for buses and taxis and the eastern side for other traffic. The new arrangements will also restrict traffic movement to streets around the bridge.
Despite the postponement, council contractors will begin ‘preparatory work’ on the bridge on 16th February. This work will require the felling of 15 trees on either side of the New Cut. The initial work will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm. When the serious work starts in the autumn we can expect substantial disruption for some time.
