New lights around the Landing

Bristol City Council is investing close to £12 million to convert 36,000 of the city’s street lights to low energy LED units. The upgrade has reached the three streets around Merchants Landing: Merchants Quay, Trin Mills and Bathurst Parade. The existing lighting on Wapping Road is not suitable for upgrade. According to the Council ‘this work is an important part of our plan to reduce energy consumption, carbon usage, and ongoing street lighting maintenance costs.’

The new lights have two important features:

  • They minimise light pollution into homes and gardens by directing light onto the road and pavement where it is needed.
  • The lights will be dimmed when road and pavement use decreases throughout the night.
